SITUATIONAL AWARENESS FOR EXTREME WEATHER EVENTS

We have been designing reliable situational awareness solutions for extreme weather events for over four decades.

OUR SOLUTIONS ARE TRUSTED FOR

MISSION-CRITICAL APPLICATIONS ALL OVER THE WORLD

FTS designs and manufactures extremely rugged systems, dataloggers, DCPs and sensors for hydrology and hydromet monitoring. Our focus is to make our customers successful in their efforts to monitor, record and analyze changes in the natural environment.

FTS commitment to our customers is to develop, deliver reliable innovative hydrologic monitoring products, systems and solutions. Our industry-leading customer care will deliver operational excellence, timely service, integrity and monitoring solutions for a changing environment.

Leveraging our experience with wildfire, we began designing complete, turnkey systems for a variety of other environmental monitoring applications. The applications we pursue are those that most closely align with our core competencies. Therefore, more than anything, we offer reliability for your meteorological and hydromet projects.

We accomplish this by developing products that are extremely rugged—they are designed to handle your extreme environments in remote locations. They are also designed with operational simplicity in mind.

Road Weather is the second largest cause of nonrecurring congestion, accounting for 25 percent of all such delays. Every year motorists endure one billion lost hours due to delays caused by snow, rain, ice, wind, and fog accounting for 24 percent of all accidents – approximately 1.5 million of them. The estimated economic costs of disruption from a single storm can be $300-$700M in just one day.

Using the Internet of Things (IoT), the FTS RWIS One is part of the next generation of intelligent transportation systems (ITS), improving operational and disaster response time with quality, real-time, localized environmental data.

Transferring real-time, accurate weather data from weather stations to decision-makers is what FTS has been doing with wildfire services for the past 40 years. As 95% of power utility wildfires are ignited by distribution lines there is a need and demand for additional situational awareness in the power utility industry when it comes to wildfire risk assessment and management.

Many of the same weather monitoring and situational awareness solutions used by USA Wildfire Agencies can be readily adapted to the power utility industry, and FTS can show you how.

FTS is the world leader in environmental monitoring solutions for wildfire. FTS stations are in use by every one of the top 50 government forest management agencies in every corner of the United States and Canada. FTS portable and fixed-site weather stations set the standard for reliability and simplicity of operation, maintenance, and installation.

As a manufacturer, we design and engineer the leading datalogger that is approved and fully supported by the NIFC Remote Sensing Fire Weather Support Unit (RSFWSU). Our GOES Transmitter is recognized as the most reliable GOES technology available, and is licensed for use by other environmental monitoring equipment manufacturers.

National Interagency Fire Center

Based in Boise, Idaho, the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) is the logistical and support center for U.S. wildland firefighting that coordinates state and federal efforts for fire response and prevention.

NIFC effectively includes all of the United States. In the eastern half of the country, the terrain is comprised of coastal plains on the Atlantic Coast with deciduous forest cover. In the south, tropical and broadleaf forests are predominant.

Manitoba Hydro

Manitoba Hydro is the electric power and natural gas utility in the province of Manitoba, Canada. Founded in 1961, it is a provincial Crown Corporation, governed by the Manitoba Hydro-Electric Board and the Manitoba Hydro Act.

USGS, New Mexico

Established in 1879, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is an organization that monitors and analyzes the health of the environment of the United States.

The Rio Grande flows from Colorado’s snow capped Rocky Mountains and travels almost 2,000 miles to the Gulf of Mexico. The river passes through 800-foot canyons of the remote Rio Grande Gorge in northern New Mexico.

Canadian Forest Service

A science-based policy organization under the department of Natural Resources Canada responsible for promoting both the sustainable development of Canada’s forests and the market competitiveness of the forestry industry.

As the second largest country by total area, Canada contains over 1/3 of total global forest cover as well as much of the world’s fresh water. The territory covered by the Canadian Forest Service includes many different types of terrain, such as magnificent mountain ranges, flat Prairie lands, rolling grasslands and hills, and ice and taiga in the northern regions. Boreal forests cover much of the country.
